I ran into an issue recently with the vCenter Server Appliance where the file based backup jobs suddenly stopped working on environments running 6.7. Attempts to run the backup job manually failed with the UI reporting “Location type SMB is not supported”, which is unexpected since SMB is supported.

vCenter Storage Providers appear Offline after Host Certificates are Installed
I ran into an issue where configuring vSphere with an intermediate signing certificate and replacing certificates on all hosts would cause the storage providers to go offline. Refreshing host certificates would also cause the issue.
VMware support determined the cause was the removal of the vCenter SMS certificate in the hosts local trust store. This certificate is not pushed to the hosts when the trust store was refreshed. This behavior occurs at least on vSphere 6.7 and 7.0. To resolve the issue, it is necessary to manually add the SMS certificate to the hosts trust store.
vCenter Server Fails Upgrade to 6.5.0-U1 with VCSServiceManager Error

I spent a portion of the last two weekends attempting to upgrade my homelab vCenter Server running on Server 2016 from 6.5.0 to 6.5.0-U1 with little success. My implementation is only a month old and non-complex, aside from the external Platform Service Controller servicing the single vCenter Server (so far).
Both the PSC and the VCS returned the same error during installation: “Installation of component VCSServiceManager failed with error code ‘1603’. Check the logs for more details.”
